Practice Areas

Estate planning and asset protection:  Paul works with clients throughout the estate planning process to help determine what will best help clients achieve their goals.  Working with trusts (revocable and irrevocable), wills, beneficiary designations, gifting, powers of attorney, and other approaches,  Paul develops a comprehensive estate plan that fits the clients’ needs.

Paul also works with high net worth clients to develop estate planning and gifting strategies for eliminating or reducing federal estate taxes.  Working with irrevocable trusts, including life insurance and grantor trusts, substantial gifts, generation-skipping trusts, limited liability companies, and other advanced strategies, Paul helps clients protect their assets for future generations.

Nursing home and asset protection:  Many people are concerned about spending significant portions of their assets on long-term care such as nursing home expenses.  Paul helps clients navigate the legal issues surrounding nursing home and Medicaid planning to develop comprehensive plans that often involve creating irrevocable trusts, gifting assets, using Medicaid-compliant annuities, and developing strategies to ensure that clients can preserve homes, farms, investments, and savings.

Business planning:  Paul also helps clients establish and maintain businesses and to develop succession plans for the continued success of the businesses. In addition, Paul works with business owners on drafting and reviewing contracts, the purchase, sale, and leasing of real estate, and the purchase and sale of the business and business assets.

Real estate:  Many of our clients have significant investments in real estate.  Paul helps clients purchase, sell, and lease real estate, grant and obtain easements, and integrate their real estate into their estate and succession plans.

Experience

Having started his legal career working in a litigation firm for eight years and then transitioning to estate and Medicaid planning, real estate, and corporate work, Paul’s focus evolved from engaging in legal disputes to working to prevent legal disputes.  Working with clients and their advisors such as investment advisors and CPAs, Paul works to tailor estate plans, businesses, contracts, and the clients’ entire plan so that their intentions and goals are clearly spelled out and can be clearly carried out.  A collaborative, client-focused approach is always the best approach.
